The Statement of Deborah Dixon: The Mother of Broderick Rashad Danti Dixon

On Friday, May 22.2009. the statement most feared by a mother was delivered to me by the Jackson, Mississippi Homicide Department. I was stunned to hear that my twin son, Broderick Rashad Danti Dixon had been murdered. The 27 year old, Computer Systems Engineer of CMC Steel of Birmingham was murdered by off-duty, Brighton.Alabama police officer, Chevis Finley. It was reported that the shooting was over a female. According to witnesses at the Enclave Apartment complex, Broderick was entering his 2001 Chevy Tahoe on the passenger side. Natasha Molette, a resident of the 900 building at the Enclave Apartment complex. was sitting in the driver's seat of the Tahoe. Chevis FinlEy drove up, went up towards the balcony area of the lower level
apartment, turned around. and started shooting at the vehicle. The vehicle was struck by 4
or 5 bullets, making it unable to be driven. Therefore. Broderick, unarmed, started
running from the 900 building ares. While running, Chevis ran after him and continued to
fire shots at him in which some bullets grazed his body. Several other vehicles were hit
with bullets during the chase, too. Broderick was shot in the foot and back of the thigh,
He collapsed at the 1100 building of the Enclave Apartment complex. Once down,
witnesses stated that Broderick pleaded for his life. They said. "Broderick asked, "Man.
you gone kill me over a woman?".... Chevis response was, "Nigga you gone die
tonight!" Then. he shot Broderick in the back.
Several people have confirmed that Broderick was not in a relationship with
Natasha Molette. We. the family, can attest to that fact, also. I was told that Natasha had
gone to 2 clubs the night of the murder. looking for Broderick and had been texting him,
From the beginning to now I have been trying to get answers to my son's murder.
I am unable to get important reports and documents that are needed to handle other
business pertaining to Broderick. I was told by the investigating officer of the Irondale
Police Department and the District Attorney's Office that they are unable to release
detailed information because of the ongoing investigation. I have given the District
Attorney's office all of the evidence that I had gotten about the murder. t had made
several attempts to speak with the investigating officer of the lrondale Police Department.
but was unsuccessful and .still did not have any answers. On June 25, 2009, I was invited
to the lrondale Police Department by the .supervisor, The identical twin of Broderick,
several witnesses, an attorney, and I went to meet with them. The meeting did not go
according to plan. The officer was very rude and had en attitude from the start. 1'hings
got so out of hand that we were told to leave and if we didn't, they would call for back
up. The supervisor of the officer did not try to make peace between the Dixon family anti
his officer. I feel that the officer's behavior was very unprofessional. All we were there to
do is give important information about the case and get answers. Again. we were
unsuccessful,
Now, I have 3 questions that I an needing answers for:
1 . How can a "trained" officer of the law chase an unarmed person. continuing to
fire shots at the person running, and "intentionally" kill him?
2. Why is the bond for murder $15.000.00-$75,000.00 and drug manufacturing
and trafficking $5.000.00-$ I,500.000.00'/
3. Why Broderick?
Now. let me elaborate on these 3 questions.
Question #l: It is to my understanding that a "trained" officer does not pull his weapon
unless his life is in danger. Broderick was unarmed and tried to run away from the
confrontation. Chevis still chased him from the 900 building to the I 100 building of the
Enclave Apartments. Therefore, during the chase, Chevis had time to calm down and
collect his thoughts about what he was doing, Broderick asked him was he going to
KILL him over a girl. Since he didn't calm down. Broderick is gone forever!
Question #2: Regardless of it being the law. I think the bond amount is too low. A
person's life has as much value as a drug. The common denominator of a drug
manufacturer or trafficker is the drug. Although the person manufacturing the drug or
trafficking the drug is either locked up or has an outrageous bail amount, the.''drug" is
still roaming the streets. True enough. it may be that the amount is set so high so that the
person can't leave. but in reality, if he really wanted to leave, he would and the.'drug"
would still be roaming the streets with him. The common denominator between Chevis
and Broderick was a life, Chevis is still roaming the streets. Chevis can still spend time
with his family and friends, Broderick can't roam the streets. The Dixon family and
friends of Broderick's can't do anything with Broderick. His tragedy has really put a
void in his identical twin brother's life, I am putting forth an effort to try and get the bond
amount changed.
Question #3: What did Broderick do to Chevis to make him shoot at him. chase him,
stand over him and.say." Nigga you gone die tonight!-, and "intentionally" kill him?
Now that I am the active spokesperson for Broderick, my duty is to see that justice is
prevailed. I have been told that I cannot hire a personal attorney nor do any personal
investigations. Well, that may be true physically. Mentally, I do have an attorney, the best
of them all. His name is Jesus. He has the verdict to this case. already. All I am asking for
are the answer to my questions.
